Social alienation is human nature yet human desire is to communicate—Shi Tie Sheng.
At some point, men are all disability. The condition of disability is losing the interest of needing, causing the feeling of alienation and losing the need to communicate. We all have to some extent, different facet of disability which includes the invisible mental impairment.
“Life On A Thin Line” inspired by a short novel “Strings of Life” and some proses wrote by the author-Shi Tie Sheng, we adapted his writing and transformed into a performance which combined physical and live music. Combined with physical movement, percussion music and live music, try to communicate with the author about his work, to introspect and finding the possibilities about the disabilities.
Director CHUANG Hui Yun with ten years’ experience in theatre, long term exposed to Sun Son Theatre’s physical and percussion training, accumulate the energy to make the production. Due to her physical health problem, she started this production idea since a year ago; she was diagnosed with Ankylosing spondylitis symptom. While she was looking for the cure, she found out that her condition may limit her further from performing skill, this empower her to reflect her situation through performing arts. In this performance, combined with Sun Son Theatre's versatile members, enhance with Sun Son 's unique characteristic which combined live music and physical theatre, in this production wish to communicate with the author, with intertextuality to discuss the topic of body pain. With visual image, live music and physical movement, to ponder the apply of arts as vehicle in actor’s training which includes the dogma that unspeakable, unhearable, that caused the untouchable fact, from this she try to explore the alienation between body and mind, social and individual. She tries to find the possibilities to bridge the gap and to communicate.
